Matt Laughlin is a coach, former licensed psychotherapist, and entrepreneur dedicated to helping individuals break through inner barriers and align their lives with their highest values. A husband and father of four boys, Matt lives in the mountains outside Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where his family aspires to live a life rooted in faith, community, and the beauty of nature.

Professional Background

With nearly two decades of experience in psychotherapy, coaching, and business leadership, Matt brings a unique depth of insight to his work. He practiced for several years as a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice in Colorado, working with individuals navigating major life transitions, deep personal struggles, and leadership challenges. His expertise in human behavior and transformation laid the foundation for his coaching approach—helping clients not only gain clarity but take bold, decisive action to change their lives.

In addition to his work in psychology and coaching, Matt has built and led multiple businesses. He launched three local magazines with a national media franchise and later served on the leadership team coaching fellow franchise business owners nationwide on sales, performance, and business growth. This blend of psychological insight, coaching expertise, and entrepreneurial experience allows Matt to help clients integrate inner transformation with real-world execution.

Coaching Philosophy

Matt’s coaching is built on the belief that true transformation happens when a person aligns their life with their deepest values and takes the necessary action to live in accordance with them. He works with business owners, executives, and high performers navigating major life transitions, leadership challenges, and personal reinvention, helping them break free from limiting patterns, develop clarity, and lead with conviction.

For several years, Matt has facilitated local, in-person men’s coaching groups designed to help men sharpen their focus, strengthen their commitments, and elevate their faith. As interest grew from men outside his local community who sought a similar coaching experience, he launched Set Like Flint—multiple remote coaching cohorts for men of faith—a coaching space dedicated to inner work, contemplation, and taking bold action rooted in Christ.

A Vision for Transformation

Beyond his 1-on-1 coaching practice, local men’s groups, and Set Like Flint cohorts, Matt is currently developing a mountain yurt and retreat space on his Idaho property. Beginning in 2025, this space will host faith-centered coaching retreats and gatherings, providing an immersive environment for men seeking renewal, challenge, and a deeper connection to their calling.

What clients have to say..

Strong personalities like mine are likely a challenge for any coach or counselor but Matt has a way of finessing his valuable knowledge in a non-threatening manner, turning more towards a friendship based discussion that is interactive and educational.  Having experienced other counselors Matt’s approach to coaching was refreshing and profoundly impactful in some of the most meaningful domains of my life.

Matt played a vital part in helping me navigate a pivotal growth and transition period as I was building a new life from scratch in a new city. His faith and clinical expertise helped me wrestle with deep issues I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to address in a different container. The man himself enjoys a life born from his own spiritual commitment and years of intentional growth. If you’re looking for someone in your corner, Matt brings a level of integrity, wisdom, and insight that sets him apart from many other coaches in the industry.
